THE WATER WAS DARK AND IT WENT FOREVER DOWN

During a holiday at the beach, a young girl tries to escape the drowning influence of her alcoholic mother. The girl swims to an island inhabited only by birds. It is there she realises that only the strong survive.

Based on a short story by Tim Winton.
